DAA Athlete Awards
The athletes Awards Ceremony will be establish as an annual event commencing in December 2012. This event recognizes athletes who have made one of the National Teams during the season and or exhibit consistency in his or her performance in the sport.
Awards are given to the top male and female athletes who have represented Dominica exceptionally, regardless of their age category. Awards are also given to the top finishers from the 2K/5K series run each year throughout the island.
Scholarships
The DAAA does not grant athletic scholarships. Athletic scholarships are granted by colleges and universities and are performance based, i.e. the athletes’ performance determines the types of scholarships an athlete can obtain from an institution. These scholarships are also based on the need of the institution. A female athlete running 11.90, 24.40, 55.00, 2:14.0 or a male athlete running 10.75, 21.60, 47.60 or 1:54.3, has a greater opportunity of obtaining an athletics scholarship. Usually athletes must maintain a 2.0 GPA or above to continue receiving the scholarship.
The Dominica Olympic Committee provides assistance to athletes who have met certain performance criteria and are on the verge of obtaining a scholarship at an institution.
