Carifta Games Bermuda Cancelled
Roseau, Dominica- The 2020 Carifta Games have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was with an abundance of caution and consideration that the organizing committee along with the host city came to such an agreement. The move came as a huge disappointment to NOC’s, stakeholders, organizers, sponsors and off course athletes. However, the decision was inevitable given the nature of the ongoing corona virus outbreak.
Talks to postpone the games were among propositions by the organizing committee. Nonetheless, there couldn’t have been a better decision seeing the level of uncertainty in the Caribbean Region. In a press statement earlier this week, North American Central american and Caribbean (NACAC) President Mike Sands said that “such a move would create a time conflict with academic calendars”. It was also noted that the games could not have been fair to athletes who do not have the chance to train.
Godwin Dorsette, President of the Dominica Athletics Association advises all athletes to take all cautionary measures until the world of athletics returns to its normalcy.
