Thea Lafond Records World Leading Jump
Thea LaFond, the 2018 Gold Coast Triple Jump bronze medalist made a statement to the international Track and Field community by recording a world leading jump in her season opener at the Liberty Elite Invitational.
In a largely solo effort, LaFond disturbed the sand at a whooping 14.52 meters to secure a new personal best (PB), and national record (NR) to lead the world in the Women’s Triple Jump.
Lafond was able to better her previous NR of 14.33 meters in three of her six attempts, making her second attempt the best. The star Dominican athlete was also able to maintain rhythm in all her other attempts as she showed no sign of slowing down!
President of the Dominica Athletics Association, Godwin Dorsette was very pleased by the performance and sighted that Thea is on the hunt for an Olympic medal this summer.
The competition took place on the 23rd of January 2021in Lynchburg Virginia at the Liberty-Indoor Track complex.
