Athletes Showing Promise Towards A Formidable Carifta Team
Portsmouth Dominica- The Dominica Athletics Association successfully staged the second meet of it’s 2022 season on Saturday the 26th of February.
The competition turned out great as there was a considerable number of athletes and clubs who recorded remarkable performances.
The meeting’s most notable athlete was Faithlyan Simon of the Pioneers Athletics Club. She recorded an impressive 12.1 seconds in the women’s U17 100m to qualify for the 49th edition of the Carifta Games.
Although Faithlyan was the only Carifta Games qualifier, the meeting saw multiple other notable performances especially in the mid-distance and distance events.
President of the Dominica Athletics Association, Mr. Godwin Dorsette, was extremely excited with the performances and turn-out of the meeting. He cited the unfavorable windy conditions as a factor in athletes unleashing their full potential. Looking forward, he believes that there will be a lot more qualifiers once the conditions are favorable.
Note: The Dominica Athletics Association is looking forward to putting a great team together for the Carifta Games and encourages all athletes to get vaccinated and follow the necessary covid-19 protocols to attend it’s future meetings.
