Hamilton And Pierre Formidable At The 7th Pioneers Classic Track And Field Invitational

Roseau, Dominica – The Pioneers Athletics Club in collaboration with the Dominica Athletics Association (DAA) hosted the 7th version of the annual Pioneers Classic Track and Field invitational on Sunday, Feb 16th.

The eight hour meeting which took place at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium featured categories; under 15, under 17, under 20 and an open section. Four of the DAA’s affiliated clubs and two affiliated schools were represented- Aithons Athletics Club, Pioneers Athletics Club, Striderz Athletics Club, Wesmar Rangers, Portsmouth Secondary School and the Dominica Grammar School.

The participation was capped off by Club US Roberts from the neighbouring island of Martinique.

Top Field Performer

Treneese Hamilton, Carifta Games shot put silver medalist started her 2020 throwing campaign with a throw of 13.37 meters in the event. Hamilton’s mark surpassed the 2020 Carifta Games qualifying standard of 12.50 meters, making her the first female Carifta Games Qualifier thus far. Her coach (head coach of the Dominica Grammar School Track and Field program) Joel Hamilton was extremely pleased with the performance.

Top Track Performer

Keva Pierre of the Pioneers Athletics Club clocked 2:25.9 in the under 20 section of the women’s 800m. Her performance was only five seconds shy of the Carifta Qualifying mark. Pierre who delivered in an exciting fashion held a very comfortable lead from start to finish. Her coach (head coach of the Pioneers Athletics Club) Cedric Harris believes that Pierre will achieve the Carifta Games qualifying mark if that rhythm continues.
