Positive Results For Team Dominica At The Inaugural Junior Pan American Games

Cali, Columbia- Dominica’s participation at the first edition of the Junior Pan American Games was a large success. Track and Field events took place from the November 30th – December 4th at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero

Team Dominica, represented by Treneese Hamilton and Dennick Luke were selected by the organizing committee of the games. The athletes were accompanied by President of the Dominica Athletics Association, Mr. Godwin Dorsettte.

Recap:

National Shot Put thrower, Treneese Hamilton recorded a major personal best (PB) and national junior record (NJR) with a throw of 14.73 meters. Her throw ranked 6th in the final and was a 11.4 percent improvement on her previous best of 13.22 meters. An excited Hamilton saw her performance as a quantum leap having broke the 14 meter barrier.

Olympian Dennick Luke ran a brilliant 800m to finish 5th with a time of 1:50.79. Luke battled his way in the two lap event against a fully stacked field having missed out the podium by only a few fractions of a second. His performance was ranked number one in the entire English speaking Caribbean and was an impressive 4 seconds faster than his 2021 season opener.

Remarks from Association President, Godwin Dorsette were also very positive. He mentioned that the performances by Luke and Hamilton is only the beginning of more great things to come seeing that they just begun preparations for the 2022 season. “The season has only started, there is so much more to expect from Luke and Hamilton”, Dorsette commented.

The 2021 Junior Pan American Games (Spanish: Juegos Panamericanos Junior 2021) was an international multi-sports event for athletes aged 17 to 22 in the Americas, organized by Panam Sports to be held in Cali and Valle, Colombia between November 25 to December 5, 2021. This Games was organized in an effort to breach the gap between the junior and senior levels of competition. The experience from the games will give the athletes a chance at success and a greater possibility of continuing at sports.
